Seth Bernard & Daisy May
Michigan has, for some time now, been a deep resource for songwriters and roots musicians. Two favorites, Seth Bernard and Daisy May Erlewine, well-known to audiences as single acts, have been touring the country and performing together for over three years. Last year, they released their first duo album, recorded in the historic Calumet Theater, which features all original songs. Together with Dominic Suchyta on bass, Drew Howard on pedal steel and Andrea Moreno-Beals on cello, these musicians create the Copper Country Quintet.

breath

Breathe Owl Breathe
Breathe Owl Breathe continues to astound fans with their talent and creativity. With roots in traditional, classical and indie music, Breathe owl Breathe has cultivated a musical landscape that is at once playful and reverent, silly and heartfelt, mysterious and familiar. Many instruments have made it into their repertoire, including cello, guitar, banjo, violin, vibraphone, glockenspiel, drum kit, various percussion, and sometimes plastic toys, woven seamlessly to great effect. Raucous at times, though frequently gently minimalist, when listening to Breathe Owl Breathe, the silence between the notes speaks with as much inflection as the notes themselves.

robin

Robin Lee Berry
Her voice is like “clear spring water gushing out from a deep place in the earth. It goes right to your heart.”
-Greg Brown
“---reflects northern Michigan’s feminine soul, blending themes of strength, courage and vulnerability in her songs, all rendered with the spirit of awe and optimism.”
-Robert Downes Northern Express magazine.
Robin Lee Berry is an amazingly talented and seasoned performer whose unique songwriting absolutely shines in terms of pure beauty and originality. Blessed with a great voice, this woman steps up to the plate and swings for the parking lot. She shape-shifts effortlessly from folk to jazz, ballads to blues, redolent with texture, adding precise guitar work and the power of her voice to the stage and to her four independently produced and recorded cd’s.
Robin lee Berry was included on the Red House Records 2002 release Going Driftless, an artists tribute to Greg Brown, and is currently working on a new recording.

Glean Infusion

hawks

Hawks & Owls
When Hawks and Owls String Band (Bruce Ling, Becca Lynn, Jason Wheeler, and Micah Ling) pick up their instruments, folks swing their partners, and feet start to move. That’s because the high-energy combination of fiddle, cello, mandolin, and guitar creates acoustic music of the free-flowing, toe-tapping variety. Clean, tight instrumentation backed up by crisp vocals, showcases tunes drawn from Appalachia, Country Blues, Bluegrass, Swing and Celtic, as well as original compositions. It’s Saturday night Grange Hall music.
